Artificial Intelligence or AI was something we all imagined will make our lives easier. It should've been made to help sick people move and do things they can not do. It was supposed to do jobs humans simply can not do, or are too dangerous, or even maybe to do mundane everyday tasks like cleaning or cooking. Instead of that, we have generative AI which can make you photos or videos of your crush (who doesn't have any ide you even exist) naked and you can do other literal crimes using AI. You can write pretty lousy novels and hope some people will buy it and you will get money by writing few sentences and making AI do the rest. Or you can use them not to do anything and just create fake people, so called AI influencers to make you money on Instagram or other social media. Or you can "make" illustration by typing few descriptive sentences and use them to get money or to promote things for free, and call yourself "an artist" (which you are not, sorry). Or you can be just bored and generate silly images or videos of yourself or other imagined things, which is the least troublesome of all.
\In the long run, this is not what we imagined AI will do. This is not working for us, no matter how much you think you are "doing things" by using it to generate books and covers for your lousy fake novels. This is working steadily against all of us. Instead of replacing people on dangerous, hard or impossible (for us) jobs, it's overtaking art, education and intellectual jobs, software development, even movies, fashion, music, illustration and everything we pretty much WANT to do. There is no a single day I don't run into stupid AI generated commercials which are so obviously fake or those that promise if you learn how to use AI you will become "most dangerous person in the room", whatever that means. Not to mention awful fake people on awful fake photos I see now everywhere. What bugs me is that I can still see it's fake but until when? Whatever I need, I still want people to do art, music, movies, education, health, fun, writing... I don't want machines to do it. I do not want to go to AI doctor or dentist. I don't want AI teacher, I don't want AI generated illustrations, comics, novels, actors... I hate even those novels with obvious generated covers. At least TRY to freaking make something! I can't stand those fake AI generated faces, all that look the same, with same bodies and sometimes obvious try to make them look more "real". Give me average human every day instead of those generated fake people!
Next thing is, AI, especially generative AI pollutes a lot! It pollutes water especially, it literally destroys the earth! Think about it next time when you are creating funny illustration or trying to generate silly image of someone you know. It's really, really not good for our planet. Why it's free is beyond me. People should not even use it.
It could be used for crimes. I don't even want to mention here, but there are such uses, and there will be worse. Humanity is not ready for this thing. We used everything for evil during history, but this could be our most damaging tool so far. Just, not the time for this. We are not ready. People already use it for evil, and it is alarming but no one seems to be aware enough how bad it is.
It steals. It doesn't really "generate" art. It steals it from internet, uses work people put online. What you are putting on your novel covers is not yours to use. What you present as your cute AI illustration is someone's life work. It's not ok, it's not moral.
Maybe it's time to think. I know many people don't care. As a writer, I see too many novels of other people decorated with bland, soulless AI generated covers. It's easy and it's free. I see people who make commercials using AI, again, easy and free. No one thinks how bad it is as long as they gain something and not lose any money. But it's bad. I appreciate more if someone pays a small actors for commercial or draws and makes freaking novel covers by themselves no matter how bad they look.
Don't lull yourself into thinking this is just harmless fun, it's serious. Be aware. And don't say no one warned you, because I am sure there are many many warnings it's just that no one listens.
